Janet Jackson and Beyoncé Knowles – Comparation (3rd round)

We announced some time ago that we will start posting a series of comparisons between Janet Jackson and Beyoncé Knowles that includes eight rounds. Let’s remember them :

1st round – Studio albums : Certifications (I made this comparison based on the certifications because the conditions in which they are granted are changed periodically, according to the decline in sales. It’s harder for artists to sell these days because of the amount of people who download.)

2nd round – Studio albums : Chart peaks (The positions on the charts show the influence and impact that those albums had worldwide, compared with the other materials on the market at their release moments.)

3rd round – Hits : Chart peaks (I didn’t make a “Certification” category like I did for the albums because until 00s the majority of singles didn’t sell good, and the certifications for them weren’t were not given properly.)

4th round – Music videos (On arguments and criteria)

5th round – Performing (On arguments and criteria)

6th round – Acting

7th round – Ability to offer variety (in everything)

8th round – RESULT (A complex conclusion)

The first and the second rounds have already taken place, and now we continue with the third!

 Result

A.  Number of hits and years of career

  • Janet Jackson has achieved 14 worldwide hits (Top 10 in minimum 5 countries) in 28 years career. Let’s make an average from these numbers : 14 : 28 = 0,5
  • Beyoncé has achieved 15 worldwide hits (Top 10 in minimum 5 countries) in 7 years career. An average of these figures would look like this : 15 : 7 = 2,1

From what we’ve done we see that Beyoncé has more hits than Janet, in a shorter period.

Winner : Beyoncé

B.  Number of singles and hits

  • An average between the number of total singles released and the hits will be calculated. Bigger number results smaller success.
  • Janet Jackson has released a number of 61 singles in her whole career. So an average would be :   61 : 14 = 4,4
  • Beyoncé has released a number of 20 singles in her 7 years career. Let’s see the average :   20 : 15 = 1,3

Beyoncé has 1,3 and Janet has 4,4, so Knowles has less unknown songs with every single than Janet.

 Winner : Beyoncé

C.  Hits and number of albums

  • Bigger number represents more hits from one album.
  • Jackson has 10 studio albums and Knowles has released 3 discs.

Janet : 14 : 10 = 1,4

Beyoncé : 15 : 3 = 5

  • Beyonce’s number is bigger so that means that she has more hits off one album than Janet has.

Winner : Beyoncé

D.  Age and hits

  • At the age of 28 we have Janet in ’94. Her statistic back then looked like : 6 (hits) : 28 = 0,2
  •  At the age of 28 we have Beyoncé in ‘10. Her situation by now look like : 15 (hits) : 28 = 0,5

Conclusion : Janet Jackson’s rapidity to have more hits in a year (it’s an average don’t forget) is only 77% of Beyoncé’s, to have “flop” singles is with 71% bigger then Knowles’. Also, her number of hits off one album is with 72% smaller than those of Mrs. Carter and Jackson had at the age of 28 only 40% of Beyoncé’s hits.
